Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

New Canon Theatre Co. was established with the belief that theatre, at its best, is a safe space where all can participate in the transformative act of storytelling. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion must be the bulwark of society, particularly at an arts organization. We recognize that these beliefs (and this statement) are not an end-all for the advancement of social progress; however, we will strive to continually learn, grow, and evolve these beliefs to ensure that all who work with us and attend our productions will have an equitable place in our organization. Diversity is essential for an artistic entity that wishes to truly hold “a mirror up to nature,” and we wish to ensure that all feel valued, heard, and respected regardless of gender, age, race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, education, or ability. This work, as stated, will never end as long as New Canon Theatre Co. continues our work of transformative, entertaining, and powerful productions and artistic events.

Land Acknowledgement

New Canon Theatre Co. operates on and around the indigenous lands of the Costanoan Rumsen Ohlone, Essalen, and Popeloutchom (Amah Mutsun) peoples. New Canon Theatre honors and respects this land, its ancestors, and the people of these tribal bands living here today. We recognize this land was unceded, and endeavor to educate all who collaborate with us on the colonial past of the Monterey Bay, Salinas, and Big Sur areas. Thank you for allowing our artists, employees, and audiences to gather together to participate in the timeless act of storytelling. You are here, and we are with you.
